Japanese electronics manufacturer chooses Arvato in Limburg as a service provider

Murata Electronics has been secured as a new client by Arvato. From Arvato's distribution center in Gennep (Venlo Region), the Japanese manufacturer will serve the EMEA region. A crucial factor in the choice was the implementation of the shuttle system.

Share Murata produces ceramic-based passive electronic components with accompanying communication and power modules. Inther's shuttle system covers 9,000 square meters, enabling Arvato to offer customer-oriented logistics solutions. Arvato ranks among the top twenty in the Top 100 Logistics Service Providers. It was important for Murata to find a logistics service provider that could match their expertise in automation and sustainability. Bert Heerink, Director of Supply Chain Management, says, "With Arvato's expertise in automation and our commitment to sustainability, we have confidence that this partnership will deliver significant value to our customers while minimizing our environmental impact."

Automation extends to the shuttle system

The automated shuttle system is at the core of Arvato's logistics solution, meeting Murata's requirements for high-density storage and improved flexibility. The system consists of 42,000 bins and enhances efficiency and speed in the order picking and packing process. Using barcode technology for goods receipt through shipment loading, combined with fully automated image processing for real-time monitoring, Arvato has also taken significant measures to prevent errors in all processes outside the shuttle system.

Scalable systems for future growth

Martijn Nielen, Managing Director of Arvato Netherlands, sees Murata's arrival as an excellent opportunity to enter the high-tech industrial sector as Murata's logistics partner. "Our automated solutions not only align with Murata's current needs but also provide a scalable platform to meet expected future growth." In addition to automation, the location of the Gennep site (Venlo Region) provides Murata with easy access to the European road network, offering fast accessibility to major airports and key ports such as Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, and Bremen. Since several package delivery providers have their main transshipment points in this region, incoming goods can be efficiently integrated into the inventory. This enables rapid distribution, ensuring that shipments reach most European customers of Murata within one to two days.

Arvato operates entirely on green power

In terms of sustainability, Arvato and Murata view each other as partners in achieving their goals.
In Gennep, there is a campus with 220,000 square meters of warehouse space. The facility utilizes electric heating and cooling, and the entire building is equipped with 27,000 solar panels, making it one of the largest systems in this area in the Netherlands. With an annual production of over 10,000 megawatt-hours (MWh), the location generates more energy than needed for its own use, reducing Arvato's annual CO2 footprint by 4,100 tons. The BREEAM certification of the location is seen by the logistics service provider as recognition of Arvato's environmentally conscious practices.
