UPS expands in Roermond with 17,000 square meters

UPS is expanding its distribution center in Roermond by 17,000 square meters. This brings the total surface area of warehouse space to 85,000 square meters. The new building will provide work for about two hundred people.

The company will use smart technologies, such as robots that ensure more efficient processing of packages, order processing, and returns. The new building will be sustainable, with solar panels and charging stations for electric cars. The building is ready and expected to be used in May, says Patrick Loos, Country Manager Netherlands.

The UPS offices in Roermond and Venlo employ approximately 1,200 people. The two hundred new employees are mainly logistics and administrative staff. Loos expects that he can find it. He is in talks with the municipality of Roermond to see if, for example, status holders can be deployed. UPS is also considering returners. “We have also been working for more than twenty years with employment agencies from which we can involve people. In addition, some of our staff already come from Germany. I expect that we can get people there interested too.”

In the second half of this year, UPS will also open the Innovation Center in Roermond, where entrepreneurs can test the latest automation and warehouse technology. The most successful inventions are rolled out across the UPS network around the world. According to Loos, the UPS plan from September last year to also set up a distribution center in Roermond for the storage of millions of vaccines against the coronavirus is still current. In that storage space come freezers that can be set to 80 degrees below zero, which is all he can say about it for now.
