Arrow has automised a new distribution centre in Venlo with Vanderlande

Arrow Electronics has opened a new European distribution center in Venlo. For the American distributor of high-tech electronics, this distrubution centre is one of the largest warehouses in the world that is largely automated with Vanderlande warehouse systems.

The 90,000 sqm distribution center in logistics hotspot Venlo is the main European hub from which Arrow supplies more than 220,000 manufacturers, value-added resellers, contract manufacturers and commercial customers with electronic components and products.

Distribution center for future growth
The new premise, the Primary Distribution Center (PDC), is one of the company's largest distribution centers in the world and will replace existing facilities in the region of Venlo, allowing more capacity for future growth.

Programming components
In the distribution center, orders are processed from customers for semiconductors, passive and electromechanical components and connectors and built-in solutions. The value added service also includes activities such as programming components.

Automation by Vanderlande
Arrow mainly invested a lot of money in warehouse automation. For example, the fully automated, barcode-driven structure in the new distribution center is based on the Vanderlande Adapto transport and storage system. According to Arrow, the major advantage of this goods-to-person order picking system is that the product is delivered directly to the order pickers, while in the past they wasted a lot of time searching for the desired product. The distributor of high-tech electronics explains: “This has greatly reduced unnecessary manual work, as well as the time between two picks. Picking accuracy, throughput and general working conditions have improved significantly.”

Breeam Excellent
In addition to automation, a great deal of attention was also paid to the theme of sustainability during the realization of the distribution center. For example, the use of the latest technologies in the field of sustainability has been used and the construction of the building aims for the future reuse of resources and a minimum amount of waste. This has resulted in the building being provided with the Breeam 'Excellent' sustainability certificate. In addition, solar panels on the roof of the distribution center provide seven megawatt hours per year. Arrow has also invested in the well-being of its employees. Therefore, the distribution center has also received the WELL Building Gold Certification.

Arrow since 1999 in Venlo
Located on the border with Germany, Venlo is one of the most important logistics hotspots in Europe for Arrow. This is (Trade Port West, ed.), where the company build its first business premises in 1999. The new location, Greenport Venlo, is not far from this starting point.
